Report for Week Ending Sun, April 19

I’m Mister Ex, your faithful chronicler of the former Blue Jays, and I’ve got the week’s highlights fresh off the press. Otto Lopez lit up the diamond for Miami, posting a .360 clip with a .967 OPS in six games, his clutch hits and a lone homer reminding fans of his 2022 farewell in Toronto. First‑baseman Spencer Horwitz, who last wore the Jays’ uniform in 2024, turned a modest .333 average into two long balls and five RBIs over seven games, while Matt Chapman, a veteran of 295 Jays contests, matched his .333 average and added a run‑scoring single. On the mound, former Toronto arm Chris Bassitt dazzled in a five‑inning relief effort, surrendering no runs and striking out two, and Jordan Hicks, who departed after the 2023 season, posted a clean 3‑inning, zero‑ERA line with a strikeout and two walks.

So far this campaign the most prolific batters have been Otto Lopez, whose .338 average and .936 OPS lead the pack, and Matt Chapman, who continues to grind out a respectable .303 average. In the rotation, Robbie Ray has been the ace of the former Jays, posting a 2.86 ERA with 31 strikeouts, while Anthony Kay has impressed with a 2.60 ERA.

Next week the Blue Jays will travel to Angel Stadium to face the Los Angeles Angels—where they may lock horns with former teammates Yusei Kikuchi, Jordan Romano, Shaun Anderson, Tayler Saucedo, Alek Manoah and Nick Sandlin—and then return home to host the Cleveland Guardians at Rogers Centre.
