You can take the player out of the Blue Jays, but you can never take the Ex-Blue Jay out of the player!
Mister Ex here, reporting on the former Blue Jays who lit up the diamond last week. Otto Lopez dazzled in a brief stint with Miami, posting a .357 average and .928 OPS in seven games, adding a home run and two RBIs before his 2022 farewell to Toronto. Spencer Horwitz, fresh from his 2024 exit, turned heads with a .375 average and a blistering .500 OBP in just five games, driving in six runs and walking four times. Marcus Semien, who hung up his Jays’ mitt after the 2021 season, contributed a solid .300 clip and .391 OBP in six outings, while Randal Grichuk, remembered for his power from the 2018‑2021 era, posted a .250 average and .750 slugging in six games. On the mound, former Toronto arm Foster Griffin (2022) showed his stuff with a 1.29 ERA and a tidy 0.71 WHIP in a single start, and rookie‑turned‑veteran Robbie Ray (2021) kept his ERA at a stingy 1.50 over six innings, striking out nine.
So far this season the most prolific former Jay with the bat has been Otto Lopez, whose .344 average and .886 OPS over 40 games have kept him atop the list, while the pitching crown belongs to Robbie Ray, whose 1.50 ERA and 1.33 WHIP have been the envy of the league.
Next week the Blue Jays will travel to face the Tampa Bay Rays (May 10‑12) and then the Detroit Tigers (May 14‑16). In those series they may run into former teammates Steven Matz and Bryan Baker with the Rays, and former arms Carl Edwards Jr. and Nick Sandlin with Detroit.
